The mechanical nature of the sewing machine has led to interactions that benefit the mechanics over the user. I designed Sue to address these usability issues to create a new setup that is far more intuitive and user friendly.

Sue utilises technology such as Bluetooth LE, bistable displays and inductive charging to develop on existing interaction. It also incorporated older technology, the hand-crank allows users to learn at their own pace but also use the machine without power if required.

All these changes are intended to make the machine more enticing to first time users. Learning to sew unaided can be daunting, the idea for the concept was to create a user friendly beginner machine.
